Michael Coffey received his B.A. in English at the University of Notre Dame and his M.A. in Anglo-Irish Literature from Leeds University. Shortly after graduation he began a career in publishing, which ranged from working with small presses to being the editor of Small Press magazine and on to Publishers Weekly, from which he stepped down as co-editorial director in 2014. His first book of poems appeared in 1996, and since then he has published two more volumes of poems, a collection of short stories, and several nonfiction works. Upon leaving Publishers Weekly, he determined to pursue a more scholarly path with a tight focus. He chose a writer he had read since his college days, Samuel Beckett. Samuel Beckett Is Closed is the result of that intense engagement.
